Regular verbs ending in – IR (8)

(Os verbos regulares – IR)

 

In Portuguese there are 3 different classes of regular verbs: ending in |ar|, verbs ending in |er|, verbs ending in |ir|. Each class of regular verbs has its own pattern of termination when conjugated. In the regular verbs ending in |IR|, we have to preserve the root exactly like in verbs endings in -er, except in WE instead of |emos| is |imos|.

 

Afirmative

você (you – formal)

vocês (you – plural) abr|em (open)

eu (I) não abr|o (don’t open)
tu (you) não abr|es (don’t open)
ele (he)
ela (she)
você (you – formal)
não abr|e (doesn’t open)
nós (we) não abr|imos (don’t open)
vocês (you – plural) não abr|em (don’t open)
eles (they – masc.)
elas (they – fem.)
não abr|em (don’t open)

 

Examples:

Você parte a madeira. > You break the wood.
Nós abrimos a loja. > We open the shop.
Elas não assistem ao concerto porque estão doentes. > They don’t assist to the concert because they are sick.
Vocês dormem muito todos os dias. > You sleep a lot everyday.
Eles conduzem os carros. > They drive the cars.
Eu subo a escada. > I climb the staircase.
Vocês definem as regras. > You define the rules.
Ela mente muito. > She lies a lot.
Tu partes amanhã de manhã? > Are you leaving tomorrow morning?
Nós pedimos um café. > We order a coffee.
